The Cleanse Ends

Today is the last day of the cleanse... today is just juicing oranges... tomorrow... oranges and later vegetable broth and then oranges and veg broth and eating some veggies with the broth.

Overall I have regained my sense of smell, my allergies are way down and I have a ton of energy.

I am thrilled and might do this for 10 days each month just to continue to remove medication and toxins from my system.

What a nice way to welcome in October!

And, this city is going nuts having the Phillies win the division... all part of October fun!

Still Under Construction

My rennovation nightmare continues! Adding about 1800 sq ft for my new office, gym, etc. has now taken close to 19 months! The builder didn't show up for 4 months! He has some of his crew show up at 7 am on Monday, with no notice.

I am glad they are here!

So things are slooooooooooooooooooowly moving.

Meanwhile we have kitchen furniture, office furniture, gym equipment, pinball machine, jukebox and much more in storage all over the place as everything came in ages ago!

I bet Mark last night 1k that they'll still be working on this come Jan.

He feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels they'll be done by Nov... LOL

I hope he is right... I'd gladly give him 1k!

Oh, well... no pushing... it is a slooooooooooooooooow flow. It is what it is!

My Response on a Radio Show Today

I'm on this radio show and so far they are following my standard questions and then he asks me about of the blue, "Terri, what is your big vision in your life?"... What a wonderful coaching question!

My response flowed because those who know me, know this is my passion!

I was thrilled for the first time to be publically asked this question.

Here is what my big vision is!

I want to impact women, worldwide, who are in poverty. I want to teach them how to start a business, any business and help them do this by coaching them to success. I know that when you take a woman who wants to be sure her kids can have food and they can have warmth and clothing, she has the desire to learn. My dream is to be enlightened by these women and to impact their lives so they can earn money, feeeeeeeeeeeeeeel good about themselves, and be active in society.

Cleansing Follow Up

So today is day 16 of my 20 day cleanse. The mornings are kind of tough and I can't schedule clients too early or do radio interviews early. That is still my "flushing time".

Daytime is a breeze and I don't have hunger, I have tons of energy and really feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel great!

I am sleeping great (except for the bathroom visits starting in very early AM!).

I am really glad I decided to do this cleanse and I acknowledge my great friend and best massage therapist on the planet, Betsy, for sharing the cleanse with me.

I need to flush away a year of medication and I see it leaving my body each day.

Isn't it odd that I can discuss my bowel movements with folks... or maybe I should say, isn't it cool?

In any case, I know that I am doing what is supportive and what feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels good for my body.

Once I am done with cleanse and then 3 day program to get my body ready to accept food again, I will use my Create Your Ideal Body program to loose the rest of the weight I gained from the medication, lack of movement and my pity party!

Mentally I know I broke the cycle of the past year and am off to a fresh beginning.

It feeeeeeeeeeeeeeels great!

I am grateful for having loving friends and family who have embraced what I am doing for me and allowed me the freedom to do what is right for my body with no judgement and no right or wrongs about it.

A few asked me how much weight I lost... I simply chuckle at that... I didn't weigh myself before and won't after... they say you loose about a pound a day and my friends who have done this before me, each lost at least a pound a day... I am not interested in the number on the scale... don't get me wrong... YES, I need to loose the weight I gained and YES it would be great to loose it and to loose inches. I don't need a scale to tell me if my clothes fit better.

The number isn't important. I would like to fit back into all my beautiful clothes and when I have done that, then I'll know that the weight gain is gone.

So, no scale for me!

The Clock of Life

One of the lessons I teach to future coaches and to all my clients, is that we know our birthdates and we don't know our check-out dates. Every second of life, therefore, I live as if it were my last. This is why I do only what brings me joy and pleasure and I make time for what is really important.

During a spiritual service this past weekend I was given this poem in a booklet that was passed out to those of us who mourned the loss of a parent or a child. I don't know who to attribute it to, and I was touched by how it illustrated the point I try to make.

The Clock of Life

The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To tell when the hands will stop --
On what day or what hour.
Now is the only time you have
So life it with a will.
Don't wait until tomorrow
The hands may then be still.

Parent Coaching

One of my graduates in the Comprehensive Parent Coach Training Program asked me why I put the program together.

Here's my answer:

As an aunt to 11 nieces and nephews and a person who believes in the impact of coaching, I realize that just because I never had the experience of having my own children, I know much about coaching skills and parenting.

I hold a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and as a specialist in child development, with a degree in this as well! For many years I worked teaching parents “coaching” skills to cope with their children and to understand normal development. I conducted therapy on children of all ages, from infants to 21 years of age and have massive experience spending full days with children, impacting their behavior, learning and self-esteem. In addition, I conducted parent trainings, workshops, learning and information sessions, teaching parents skills for better parenting.

I have been working on this material for over five years and based on people asking me to train them on this information; I decided the time was now. I spent a great deal of time deciding on the format of this information and realized these concepts could be shared quickly by an e-course.

The principles and concepts arise from the experience of coaching parents and from the trial and error reported to me from parents as to what works best for them. I want to make an impact on the world through you. You can coach parents to raise children with healthy self-esteems and greater personal responsibility, so that parents and their children will find greater joy together.

My BIG Story

Alright, I am finally ready to reveal my BIG story!

If you thought I was about coaching and books, that is what I do because of my BIG story...but it isn't the BIG story.

So here goes...

Many years ago when I lived in Yonkers, NY and was in elementary school, I met a girl named Jackie. Jackie came to school by bus and was living in an orphanage. As I got to understand through Jackie what this meant, I felt sad. We didn't have a lot of money at my home, but I had parents, an apartment, food and clean clothes.

The day before Halloween I was talking to Jackie on the playground about trick 'or treating and she said she didn't get to do that. I decided right then that I would get as much candy as I could for Jackie.

We lived in a cooperative where there were 6 apartments per unit and the amount of units we had was hard to count! I first went unit to unit and had to go home because I couldn't carry the amount of candy I had. (There were a lot of unit!s)

Then I left again, this time armed with two giant shopping bags. I tackled individual homes and then I realized there were two tall buildings called condos... they looked like apartments to me... anyway, I had a friend who lived in one. I went and rang her doorbell and she was home and then she helped me do both tall buildings.

It was late and dark and I had to get home.

My mother thought I collected the candy for myself (I never liked candy!) and she was wondering why I needed so much. I explained to her about Jackie and she helped me package all the candy up nicely.

My sister came home and brought me a giant plastic pumpkin filled with candy and a tall object with a skelton head on the top, also filled with candy. I told her thanks and explained that this year Jackie was getting it all.

My mom had to help me to school and we walked carrying all these bags and the pumpkin and skeleton head. Then, I waited outside for the bus and as soon as I saw Jackie I pulled her into our classroom and gave her the bags. She cried and cried. I've never forgotten this experience and the love and compassion I felt for her. I wanted to do more.

Ever since Jackie, which I think was in the third or fourth grade, I have lived my life on a mission to serve others and help others. When I make money, it feeeeeeeeeeeeeels good to me because I am then able to help others who are in need.

My vision is to give away 90% of what I earn and live on 10%.

Sure I could have another car, a newer car, a bigger home, a vacation home... who knows what else... but I want to give more and so I enjoy my life with what I have and I find causes I believe in and share money with others.

This in fact is what drives me to make money.

Ok, finally I shared my BIG story.

Jackie, wherever you are, I am most grateful to you. You touched my heart and soul and I'll never forget the beauty you brought to my life.

I hope I can continue to pay it foward in bigger and bigger ways.

Work Yourself Happy... What Does It Mean?

What does it mean to "work yourself happy"? To me, this means to do what you love and love what you do! Work should be natural and effortless!

Work Yourself Happy works because it focuses on the clients interests and talents and allows them to give up the "shoulds" - you know the things we all hear we "should" do, but they aren't necessarily what we want and somehow we keep holding on to them...

People find themselves in jobs they don't love because they follow their "shoulds", although they rarely recognize this until a coach helps them see it. Then as they begin to put thought into their own desires they can realize their own professional goals vs. being in a career they should be in.

Here are 3 things you can do TODAY to increase your chances of being happy at work:

Cleansing Update

Well it's day 7 of the cleanse. It is so weird to have no hunger at all... in fact, seeing food makes my stomach turn!

My sense of smell is coming back (I lost if after sinus surgery a few years ago) and smelling food is also awful. That is so odd to me.

I have had a good amount of energy and have been doing some form of body movement each day.

I will admit I did nap many times this weekend;)

The hardest part for me is drinking a quart of water with 2 tsp. celtic sea salt in the am. Getting the quart down makes me want to gag and I fight hard to swallow it.

I know it's worth it because within an hour my system is flusing out waste... this makes my morning routine a bit difficult so I am getting up pretty early to drink the cleansing bath and prepare for "flush time".

All I know is it all feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels good and after a year of meds I have to detox this body and then I can go back to living a Create Your Ideal Body lifestyle.

Cleansing Away The Rubbish

Ok, a year has now gone since my injury... so, I was thinking... how do I get rid of the dirt, the scum, the cellular memories of this? And then, a few of my good friends and business associates also suggested I get rid of an energy around a person who had worked in my business and turned out to be a spiritual fraud. They felt her energy was horrid and wanted to be rid of it, too.

So, we entered this ritual together this weekend!

First, we had a chocolate powder and milk bath (yes, Hotel Hershey!) and we soaked the old energy away.

Then we had some healthy cleansing tea.

Onwards, we then had chocolate scrubs and as I was being scrubbed, I felt the old skin and feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings falling off and begin to let in new growth of my skin and my being.

Time to relax for a few with some water and to sit in the silent room and just be.

Ah, already feeeeeeeeeeeling happy and like the old poisions were leaving.

On to a chocolate massage. As I lay on the table I visualized the injury memories going away and the massage creating an opening for them to flow out... I also saw the "spiritual fraud" person melting away from me and simply let her drift so far away she is matterless material.

Beautiful!

We ate a glorious lunch, sat outside, sipped champagne and breathed in the beauty of this new year about to unfold.

Now it was time for a chocolate facial and my face was ready for some attention.

It felt clean and clear and free of any worry or fears and no longer holding the attributes of a person who was injured as I re-shaped it into ease. (Oh, don't get me wrong... my RSD hurts 24/7... I am just choosing rituals to allow the Achilles injury to be done with and to live in a new way as a person with RSD).

After the massage I went to the inhalation room and sat and felt the calm and peace and ease. The joy was so intense I was blissful!

Finally (how sad to end!), I had a full body wrap with chocolate fondue! I felt warm and nurtured and supported and loved. As the wrap came off I allowed any old energy to let go from my injury and from this fraud who showed up in my life.

I emerged knowing all was new and fresh!

When I got home I had dinner with my husband and my dad and my good friend Mary Ellen and we talked and laughed and I knew I had made a huge shift.

Today, I began a 20 day purification cleanse called the Master Cleanse... and I won't be eating for 20 days. I already feeeeeeeeeeeeeel great and I know this is the last piece of the release.

My Achilles is healed and I am free of the spiritual fraud! What a bless-ed day!

How NOT To Get Rich, Ever

Just keep doing the same things over and over and over again but hope for different outcomes.

Blame everyone else for keeping you oppressed... there is a conspiracy against you for sure!

Wait for things to change.

Half-heartedly, skeptically try a few things and then quit because you knew all along they wouldn't work.

Keep giving yourself lots of negative, limiting and destructive affirmations, like, "I can't get clients", "I hate to sell", "I don't want to market"... that's right, go ahead and talk yourself out of success.

Stick up a website and hope that will get you clients... then go watch Oprah and eat cookies!

Keep waiting for the "right time" to make changes.... keep waiting... until???

Save money by staying home and skipping becoming a coach ... why do I need to that anyway? Besides I know coaching without training. I've been around. I don't need somebody teaching me to be a coach, I've been doing it for years. I know how hard it is to earn money and this won't help me at all.

CRPS/RSD Described...

I had such an overwhelming response to my sharing with you my
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD), also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome that I wanted to give you facts about it as many were inquiring individually...the info below is taken from the RSDS.org website:

(CRPS) is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by severe and relentless pain that affects between 200,000 and 1.2 million Americans.

RSD is a malfunction of part of the nervous system.

Nerves misfire, sending constant pain signals to the brain.

RSD develops in response to an event the body regards as traumatic, such as an accident or a medical procedure. This syndrome may follow 5% of all injuries.

Minor injuries can cause major problems. Minor injuries, such as a sprain or a fall are frequent causes of CRPS/RSD.

One characteristic of CRPS/RSD is that the pain is more severe than expected for the type of injury that occurred.

Early and accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key to recovery, yet many health care professionals and consumers are unaware of its signs and symptoms.

Typically, people with CRPS/RSD report seeing an average of five physicians before being accurately diagnosed.

Symptoms include persistent moderate-to-severe pain, swelling, abnormal skin color changes, skin temperature, sweating, limited range of movement, movement disorders.

CRPS/RSD is two to three times more frequent in females than males.

The mean age at diagnosis is 42 years.

However, we are seeing more injuries among young girls, and children as young as 3 years old can get CRPS/RSD.

This is not a psychological syndrome, but children may develop psychological problems when physicians, parents, teachers and other children do not believe their complaints of pain.

Treatment may include medication, physical therapy, psychological support, sympathetic nerve blocks and, possibly, sympathectomy, or dorsal column stimulator.

My Latest Book!!

Learing life lessons are never easy, but a new friend is here to help.

Abigail and The Purple Fairy takes the audience on a delightful journey as Abigail learns some valuable lessons from a purple fairy about growing up, dealing with big and small disappointments in life and learning to find the good in the bad days, too.

As the story begins Abigail is in her bed asleep and is awakened by a gentle, small voice coming from her bedside. She turns on the lamp and sees a fairy with white hair and gossamer wings that spreads silvery purple glitter into the air. The fairy wants to talk about Abigail's life - Abigail says it's boring, but the fairy teaches Abigail a valuable lesson. She tells Abigail to believe in herself and imagine he things she wants to happen.

The tale ensues with several examples of Abigail learning to believe in herself and her desires such as friends playing with her at school, the teacher asking her questions in class that she knows, her mom fixing her favorite foods and enjoying the colors and scents of flowers as she and a friend walk to school.

Abigail and the Purple Fairy gives children valuable lessons through the eyes of Abigail's day by accepting, believing, dreaming and making the most of their days and learning that disappointments are not everything in a bad day.

Recreating Yourself ... Life After CRPS/RSD

As you may or may not be aware, after a long period of immobilizations and castings due to a ruptured Achilles, I developed CRPS/RSD, known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy.

There are many stages to CRPS/RSD, which have to do with changes in the extremity. In stage one, which is the stage right after injury, there is increased blood flow and swelling to the area of injury. In my case the extremity was always cold and swollen. It turned black and I could not feel it.

Stage two, is the dystrophic stage or ischemic stage. This stage is characterized by neurovascular changes that affect the blood flow into the extremity. Again, in my case, this meant the extremity was very cold, black and I had no feeling and could not tell hot vs. cold or feel sharp needles.

And stage three is atrophic where the neurovascular changes become more pronounced. There is a decrease of blood flow into the area, along with other nervous system changes.

My life and my physical limits have changed with this disease and so I had to change my hobbies and activities. I had to learn to do things I can do vs. things I want to do.

I have pain each day with CRPS/RSD and have physical limitations with this disease. I have had to learn to recreate myself in many ways so that my life is still full, juicy and meangingful.

I live life at a much slower pace now. Instead of going for long walks, working at on equipment, working with my trainer, hiking and jogging, and exploring countries around the world, I now do more writing, am at home more and have created more books and articles.

The busier I am the less I focus on the pain. There have been many times when the pain was just to unbearable to do anything and concentrating became almost impossible, yet I always fight my way through it and find that when I am writing, speaking, training or coaching clients, I escape the pain and have much joy.

Every Speaker Needs Coaching!

When a speaker uses poor grammar or has error in their speech, their credibility can be destroyed. Here are words and phrases that can make a good speech and a good speaker lose the audience.

1. Irregardless: Although some people say this isn't really a word, it can be found in Webster's. The word means regardless. So, just use the word regardless.

2. Proactive: This has become an overused word today. It refers to looking forward and avoiding future problems. Instead of proactive, try replacing it with the words active or reactive.

3. Capable of: This is a weak phrase. Substitute can or able to instead.

4. Remains to be seen: This is a cliche. Avoid cliches when presenting.

5. In terms of: What does this mean? We hear it said all the time, but it has no meaning. Avoid these words.

6. At some point in time :What other point is there than a point in time? Just say, at some time.

7. As to whether: Why not replace with the simplier, whether?

8. As regards: Once again, this is wordy. Replace with, regarding.

9. Timewise and otherwise: Don't you mean regarding or as to? Much clearer.

10. Equally as This is poor grammar. It is either equally important or it is important. Not equally as important.

10 Ways to Put Fun In Your Practice

It might be a stretch for any physician to imagine how "fun" has anything to do with their profession. I'm not suggesting you become frivolous or that you should take your responsibilities lightly. I am suggesting you find ways to lighten your days, for your own benefit.

Yours is not the jolliest of professions on the planet. It's hard to go home and switch off. How can you focus on being with your children in a playful manner, when your head is elsewhere, perhaps with a dying child? How can you interact with anyone cheerfully, when each moment of your workday involves sickness and death?

As a human being, having fun is your birthright. Learn to incorporate some fun into your day and YOU will feel better for it… and so will your staff, your family, and your patients.Need ideas?

Here's 10 to get you started

1. A physician I know has a smiley face sticker inside the cover of his bed lamp – when patients look up, they see this big smiley face. He also has a large, stuffed toy giraffe in one corner that he puts silly hats on and colorful mobiles hanging from his ceiling. His piece de resistance is a white Furby on his desk with whom he "consults" playfully.

2. Keep 10-15 minutes free morning and afternoon so you can have a break. Keep some puzzles, crosswords, games or even coloring books in your desk to play with. (If you're embarrassed, lock your door.)

3. Remember to smile. Illness and death are going to happen every day, whether you're there or not. You do the best you can, but you're not a miracle worker. Don't spend all of your day worrying about everyone else's day. Take your own advice. If you recommend your stressed clients take a walk at lunch time, you'd better get your walking shoes on!

4. Buy a joke book. Each time you enter your office, share a joke with your staff. If your staff are happy, it will rub off on you and make visits to your office more pleasurable for your patients. Children will love your riddles.

5. Allow your staff to play the radio in the front office. Do the same for your own office, or choose CD's that inspire and relax. Maybe you can have "happy" children songs playing for your child patients and soothing music for your stressed professional patients. (Or maybe they could also do with a dose of "The wheels on the bus go round and round…"?)

6. Take a rostered day off. Share this opportunity with your partners. You CAN arrange your schedule to fit in a rostered day off during the month. Do exactly what YOU want to do on this day: fishing, golfing, reading, hiking, or maybe you just want to spend the day in bed and do nothing!

7. When you send follow up notes and reminders to your patients, stick a "happy" sticker on the bottom near your signature. Put "happy" stickers on your phone, your computer and anywhere else you will see them.

8. Send your office a "happy" gift basket once in a while. There are online stores that sell specialty "fun" corporate gifts that include silly things, like moldable Gumbies, happy faces on a stick, fun shaped chocolates. You'll also enjoy receiving the basket of fun goodies, even if you have sent them yourself.

9. Have fun with your patients. Give them a riddle and tell them if they can answer it, you'll give them a jelly bean. Keep happy stickers on your desk so you can stick one to your patient's shirts before they leave.

10. Have a "wacky" day, like a crazy hair day. Wear silly wigs or do something crazy with your own hair. Put up a notice to alert your patients beforehand so they won't get a shock when they visit. Invite them to participate if their visit coincides with your scheduled "wacky day". Take advantage of special days like "Red nose day" when you and your staff can wear red clown noses. (You can "fine" your staff and patients a dollar if they don't participate, and donate it to charity.Think about this… if you were ill and had to visit your doctor, what would lift your spirits? A happy, "fun" environment, or a somber, gloomy environment that matches how you feel?

Prepare For Job Interview Questions

To be prepared for an interview it is helpful to have an understanding of the questions you may be asked and to have prepared answers for them. As you read the questions below, think of adaptations to these and then answer them. You may want to say your answers out loud while looking in a mirror to see how you look and sound. Another great tip is to record your answers into a tape recorder and then play it back and see what it sounds like. Practice your answers and then go take charge of your career and get the job you want and find the employer you want to work for!

1. Which supervisors have you found easiest to work with and which have been most difficult? This is to judge your adaptability.

2. What did you like best and least about your previous job? Checking your administration and management skills.

3. Have you ever had to get a point across to different types of people? Give me an example and tell me what approach did you take? Finding out about your communication skills.

4. Describe a work-related problem you had to face recently. What did you do to deal with it? Decision making skills tested.

5. Give me an example of a time you did more than what was required in your job. Seeking initiative.

6. Give me an example of a time you found it necessary to make an exception to the rules in order to get something done. How is your integrity?

7. What was the best decision you ever made? What were the alternatives? How did you go about making it? Checking your judgment.

8. Tell me about a time you had to gain the cooperation of a group over which you had little or no authority. What did you do? How effective were you? Leadership.

9. Have you ever had trouble learning a new method or procedure? How did you deal with that situation? Investigating your learning ability.

10. Tell me about a problem you have had that would affect more than one department. How did you try to solve it? For organizational cooperation.

Prospecting For Clients

Believe it or not in one of my first business, I simply pulled names straight out of the telephone book. A through Z....and called. I dialed and dialed to get clients.

I'd say, "Hi...how are you? My name is Terri Levine and we are looking to host local art shows and give free art away to people in this area...Are you interested?"

And guess what? Most people said NO!

Why am I sharing this? Whatever medium you are using whether it's phone, written word, Internet, radio or TV, you have a few seconds to identify who has a need, want or desire for your products or services, and then you have to hold their attention long enough to get them to do what you want...

Simple concept, yes?

Of course, there's more to it... for now just do one of the following two things and your success will soar immediately...

1. Scare the audience... worry them badly about something that affects them...

OR

2. Promise them something ridiculous yet true...

So ...Knowing this, my cold calls would be different now (if I still did them!)...

"Hi...My name is Terri Levine. Let me ask you something...If I can truly show you how to
get your home fully decorated with original oil paintings everywhere you desire in your home for free ...is that worth 14 minutes of your time to find out how?"

So there you have my prospecting gift!

Empower Your Employees!

The word empower is often overused. Many employers talk about empowering their employees but often employees feel disempowered. Here's a list of the top 10 things you can do that will really empower your employees, according to employees, not employers!

1. Allow employees to actively participate in team and company goals.
Look for every opportunity to include employees at every level of the organization, in being active participants. Employees often report getting one-way directives instead.

2. Allow employees to suggest better ways of getting their jobs done.
Ask for employee suggestions for other ways of getting the task or project accomplished. Listen and be willing to really hear the employees' comments. Employees often report that they have no input and are told exactly how to perform their jobs, leaving no creativity.

3. Provide positive reinforcement.
Always listen and acknowledge your employees. Employees often report that their decisions and actions are second-guessed and that most, if not all, feedback given is negative.

4. Clearly delegate responsibility and give the employees authority along with the responsibility.
Do you give inconsistent messages? Do you ask the employee to handle a problem or project and then give them negative feedback or give them an assignment and then say "never-mind?" Employees often report that they are given tasks and then told they did it wrong.

5. Be clear in your communication.
When you express goals or explain projects, be sure the employees really understand what you are asking for. Employees often report that the goals are unclear and that they are not sure what they are being asked to do.

6. Show you have trust in your employees.
Allow them to make mistakes as a form of learning. Show that it is really ok to make mistakes. Let them know you really support their decisions. Employees often report that someone is always looking over their shoulder to make sure they do things right.

7. Listen. Listen. Listen.
Do you do most of the talking? Employees often report that conversations are one way, comprised mostly of their ideas being criticized. They don't feel they are heard.

8. Be interested in the employees' career development.
Meet with employees and discover their goals and their wants. Employees often report that their goals are not viewed as important in the organization.

9. Let the employees help you achieve success.
Are you doing it all yourself? Employees often report that their managers do all the tasks and that they have no way to make contributions outside their job descriptions. Look for opportunities to delegate and enhance the employees' career development at the same time.

10. Be a coach.
The best way to empower employees is not to manage them. Coach them to success. This is a process of developing their skills and providing them specific feedback to meet high standards. Employees often report feeling like children rather than being on the same team with their bosses. Be their coach and lead the team to success!

Training For A New Career

When I look at what people love about the field of business coaching it is the fact they can get training quickly and have a new career by studying at home in no time. Make Your Clients Love You...

That might seem a bit over the top, but if your clients love you, they'll keep coming back. They'll give you repeat business and refer their friends and acquaintances to you. They'll give you wonderful testimonials that you can use to boost your business. Working with them will feel more like "fun" than "work".

And it works the other way first… !

Have you ever heard of people talking about a doctor's "bedside manner"? A doctor with a great "bedside manner" is never short of patients! In fact, a doctor with a great "bedside manner" attracts more patients. This doctor, if he wants, can charge whatever price he chooses and he will never be short of clients!

Coaches are in a similar boat. If you're a sourpuss, or too serious and have no sense of humor, how do you think you'll compete with a loving, caring, warm, approachable Coach who has a great sense of humor and brings warmth into their client's lives?

Don't make the mistake of thinking you only have to hold the most qualifications to attract more or better clients and keep them. It doesn't work that way. People like feeling good. We might run our businesses with our heads, but it is our hearts that make us tick. We are creatures of emotion and even the most cold-hearted among us responds positively to kindness, warmth and compassion.

There is only one secret to attracting and keeping perfect clients… they have to like you. I've known people who are willing to pay MORE to a particular Coach for that very reason. You don't HAVE to be the smartest, most qualified Coach on the planet, and you don't HAVE to offer the cheapest fees – but you must be likable.

Being likable is a true business asset. You shouldn't believe that provided you do great coaching, that's all that matters and personalities don't come into it – it doesn't work that way. When you consider referrals (which can boost or kill your business) – what type of referrals do you want? Do you want your clients bad-mouthing you and telling people how terrible you are? No, of course not… this is why you must be likable!

Most coaches don't have this problem. We're trained to be "people" oriented, to build them up and make them feel good about themselves. However, as with any profession, there are some Coaches and Consultants whose "bedside manner", to borrow the expression, is cold and detached. Detaching yourself from outcomes is good, but just be careful about how you express this in your relationship with your clients. You don't want to form any barriers between yourself and your client. Remember, they are not buying a loaf of bread from you, they are paying you to help them have a great life… their coaching experience should be part of that experience.
A great marketing tip, and one that serves Coaches and consultants well, is remembering your clients birthdays and special events. You should have this information in your client records so you can send birthday cards, and for special clients, you can send small gifts. Remember them at special holiday times too.

If they have children who participate in special activities like sport or dancing, etc. You can inquire about them. You will impress your clients by (a) remembering and (b) that you cared enough to ask.

Being a "likable" Coach doesn't just stop with your clients. Word of mouth referrals also come by way of every business associate with whom you deal. If you're unpleasant to deal with, you will miss valuable joint venture opportunities and the referrals from other coaching and business associates. Some coaches forget this. Some have short tempers and sharp tongues in their dealings with those who are NOT their clients. Referrals In A Hurry!

Everyone who knows me also knows I believe 100% in using referrals as a business building tool. It is the easiest and cheapest form of marketing – other people are doing your marketing for you!

There are added benefits to building your business using referral based marketing, apart from the obvious cost savings. You know yourself, when you ask your friends for advice and they refer you to a certain business or product, you trust their judgment and advice. It's the same with clients whose own friends referred you to them. You don't have to prove yourself to these new referrals… you've already proven yourself to their friend and in their eyes, you're already the expert.

So, how do you encourage existing clients, and past clients, to refer others to you? Well apart from simply asking them, there are other ways of building referrals – here are some tips:

1. I include a request for referrals at the bottom of my new client Welcome letters and on the bottom of each invoice – so there is a constant reminder and request for referrals.

2. Besides always including some small wording about referrals as above, you can do a special mailing in which you specifically ask for referrals from your current and past clients. You can consider a referral reward system. For every x number of referrals/clients who sign up, you can give a gift to the "referrer". Or for every new client referred to you by another client, you can reward your referrer with an Amazon gift certificate. People like to receive rewards. Another great time to ask your client(s) for referrals is when they compliment you and express excitement about some achievement they've accomplished thanks to you! That's your cue to tell them to let their friends know that if they also need this help, they know where to come!

3. If you have an office where clients attend, stick up a sign on the wall where clients will see it that says you appreciate their referrals. Make it large enough to read from a distance. Even if your client has never referred anybody to you, this will put the idea in their head!
4. Participate in joint referrals with associates whose business activity complements your own. If you refer YOUR clients to other people's businesses, there is a better chance that they will reciprocate and refer their clients to your business. You don't have to stick to businesses that are similar to your own – think about hairdressers, dry cleaners, travel agents, etc. You can do this with your clients as well. Promote them to people you know and they will be happy to refer people to you.

4. Leave your brochure and some business cards in a visible place (front desk) of businesses whose clientele might be interested in your services/products. Offer to do the same for the business where you leave your brochure/cards. (I also do this with "ad exchanges" – no money changes hands here – my business associates are happy to send out an ad of mine to their newsletter lists in exchange for me sending one of their ads to my list.)

5. If you don't have a formal referral reward system set up, do remember to send a special thank you card or small gift to the person who has referred a new client to you. If you are not appreciative of a referral and don't show your appreciation, you may not get a second one! Don't offer gift certificates to your own services or products – your referrers are more likely to appreciate it if you reward/thank them with other types of small gifts. In the past I have thanked my referrers with individualized gifts to suit them: an acrylic clock, a calculator, and a paperweight. However, you needn't spend a fortune on this – your clients will feel just as rewarded with an Amazon gift certificate, movie tickets – or even a box of chocolates!
For first referrals, I suggest a gift in the $5-10 price range. Choose something they can display in their office or home and if you can, inscribe it with something like "Deep thanks, Comprehensive Coaching U" (using your own company name, of course!)
When that person refers a second client to me, I follow the same format but this time, I send a slightly more expensive thank you gift – in the $15-20 range. (Notepad/calculators, emergency car kits, thermos, etc.)

Then, for each referral above this, I work in increments of 3. For each third referral, I bump the gift up. So, it might be lunch at their favorite restaurant, a weekend getaway, etc.
I don’t promote this program to my clients. I love to “WOW” them with the surprise gifts. I have found in about 9 months, this program really kicks in and referrals flow in. It is great fun for all, and I happily pay for a gift of dinner to have a new client.

6. Offer your clients and associates commissions on successful referrals – you can start an affiliate program. When you receive payment from referring other people's products or services, you don't mind making the referrals! You don't have to do this for every product or service, but you might like to pay a small commission on the first coaching session your new referred client receives.


7. Consider to do a free teleseminar and encourage your existing clients to attend and bring a friend! That gives you extra people who will be able to experience you without having been a client themselves, and who will talk about you to others. Offer them a gift for their attendance – perhaps a free e-book or special report. Give them an e-mail address where they can redeem their gift.

8. Another great way to build referrals is to do a promotional activity with a nonprofit organization. Find a charity organization that has a large member base – the types of members who would be most likely to use your services. You contact them and offer to do a special fund-raising activity. Maybe you can do a speaking engagement in which you split the profits 50/50 (and you can also sell back of the room products to increase your profit.) Or you can suggest if they would like to refer you to their members, you can offer their members a special discount and you will pay the organization a percentage of each member's fee. Sure, you don't make great heaps of money doing this, but it does showcase you to a whole new range of people – potential clients – potential referrers! And it's cheaper than taking out a full page ad!

This fear results in them losing their motivation to grow, to achieve and to succeed.I help them establish new behavior patterns and new beliefs and feeeeeeeeeeling to overcome this old story.

Things I Learned About My Energy

I have worked with many experts in the areas of self-help, mind/body/spirit work, energy work, etc. I had the joy this weekend of having a session with an amazing woman who uses Shiatsu/Shin Tai and Reflexology/Reiki to promote personal growth, healing and centeredness.

First of all, let me tell you how I came by her. One of my loving clients sent me a gift certificate to work with her. I was thrilled to receive this and held it until I felt up to this body therapy after my Achilless rupture.

I knew that this was a special gift and wanted to soak it in.

The session was fascinating and worked to restore my natural energy. The practioner created a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. What I honored most was her deep respect and tailoring to match my specific needs. I left feeeeeeeeeeeeeling super relaxed and calm.

Secrets That MLM's Don't Teach You

I did a call last night for people in MLMs (direct selling, independent marketers, network marketers, distributors, party plans, etc) and I shared the secrets that MLM's don't teach. I really believe in network marketing and know it can work, but not under the models set up.

The current model is to have you sell the opportunity, get in as many people as you can... because they know over 90% of the people will fail and they are hoping one person you brought in might be successful.

This doesn't make YOU money.

People you bring in just based on the opportunity, get in for money. They get right out when they don't make money.

You can make 10k or more in this business, IF you don't follow what MLM's teach you!

It is About Making a Difference!

When I decided to major in Speech-Language Pathology back in college, it was because the field was one where I could help children and adults to gain/regain their speech, language and comprehension and I believed strongly that communication was vital to a full life experience. I entered the field to make a difference -not to make money.

When I later opened up my own Speech Clinic addressing the needs of stroke patients, autistic and Down Syndrome children, adults and children who had CP or were mentally retarded and stutterers, I came from wanting to make a difference in people's lives and to ease up the pain of not being able to communicate with ease. I didn't care about making money.

Later, as I changed direction and became an Art Consultant I had a strong desire to bring inexpensive, yet beautiful, original oil paintings to everyone so they had a chance to enjoy art and get joy from their art. Making a difference in their lives was the motivating factor - not money.

As I moved back into the rehabilitation field and began marketing for companies and then operating companies, I only wanted to make money. In those jobs I never felt I made a difference except for the times I was training, coaching, mentoring and supporting my teams. I was there to work a J-O-B and make money.

When I left that field to do coaching full time, it came solely from my desire to make a difference in people's lives...to make their lives more rich and full and their work and business more successful and joyfilled. Money was not an ingredient in my becoming a coach. And I wondered why I had been in the mode of accumulating money for many years and lost my direction.

I share my thoughts on this as I am about to make a large donation on behalf of someone who needs treatment overseas. I am glad I have the money to do this, so I can make a difference in someone's life.

Business Coaching Sector on an Upturn Again!

The downturn in our economic condition in the US is opening up more coaching work as corporations are downsizing and individuals are hiring career coaches to move foward. Also, as corporations downsize this causes much chaos within the organization and so those corporations are hiring coaches to help people deal with the changes the downturn in bringing and their fears about their employment.

Just in the past 7 weeks I have personally been contacted by 5 companies and 11 individuals.

Coaching is unique in that when business is great, corporations hire coaches and individuals hire coaches to change careers, start their own businessess, etc. When the economy is down, individuals hire coaches to find new careers and companies hire coaches to help them retain key talent while downsizing others.

I am glad I am in a stable industry and self-employed!

The Morgenbesser Famiily

I am always so proud to be part of my mother's family. They are loving, funny, generous and really caring people.

On Friday, my Uncle Carl, passed away. Carl was one of my mother's brothers.

Carl was our single Uncle who always played with the kids, took us to Coney Island and to the Seaquarium and created picnics on the floor of my Grandmother's house with blankets and snacks!

He was loving and fun.

Carl was single and lived with my Grandmother.

When my Grandmother passed, she asked her other children to promise to care for Carl and they all did right up until his death.

My mother, when she was alive, made mounds of chicken, and veal, and pasta and drove from NJ to Brooklyn, NY to carry these heavy trays of food to him. My Aunt and Uncle went to visit him on a regular basis and cared for him during the past few years when he was put in a nursing home.

Sadly, he was badly depressed and had been on the wrong medication for many, many, many years. His happiest years hae been in the nursing home:(

He loved the nurses and had a "girlfriend" there and the nurses really took stellar care of him and cared for him with love.

The funeral was Sunday and my Uncle was buried next to my Mother - just as she planned and purchased him a plot soooooooooooooo many years before her death in 1996.

I grieved for the loss of my Uncle and the loss of so many Morgenbesser's over the years... my Grandparent's, my Aunt Fran and Uncle's Ralph and Seymour and also felt sadness that our family was shrinking. Of course, I also missed my Mom, dearly.

Later, at the home of one of my cousins, where we all gathered to share memories and laughter and get some food in our bodies... we laughed, we hugged, we told our stories about Uncle Carl and the other Morgenbesser's transitioned. I felt connected, and honored to be a Morgenbesser!

Today, as I feeeeeeeeeeeeeeel about yesterday, I realize it is more about having a family that is connected and supportive than it is about loss.

When I Sent This Out Some Folks Got Angry... Why?

I sent this letter out last year and many folks got spurred into action and some took offense at being called a "human lobster"... hmmm, wonder what that all means... the very different reactions is about them, yes? Well I decided to remodel it and share it again... I'll be curious so do post your reactions... ALL are welcome!

SEVEN STEPS TO BE FINANCIALLY FREE

Around ten years ago, I had to face the reality of being miserable in my job but having to stay there to make money. After so many years of hard work my happiness had gone south. It is a moment that I will not like to remember the rest of my life.

I felt I was the only person with that catastrophic feeling. I was wrong. And the best part was that many other people have a fantastic comeback.

Reading a book from Dan Kennedy, he mentioned something about our reality. If you don’t act today, your future will be terrible…

“Take any hundred persons at the start of their career and follow them for forty years until they each reach retirement age and here is what you will find according to the Social Security Administration: Only one will be wealthy … four will be financially secure …thirty six will be dead … and fifty four will be dead broke – dependent on their meager Social Security checks, relatives, friends, even charities for a minimum standard of living. That is five percent successful, ninety-five percent unsuccessful”.

After reading this I know I had to change if I wanted a better future.

I decided to do some research on my own through books and interviewing people who were very successful. After many months of research and tons & tons of notes, I started to look for a common denominator among them… for their most common behavior… most repeated vehicle to obtain their wealth… as well as their personal input of every aspect of the economic world.

One night I felt my head was about to explode

INFORMATION… INFORMATION… INFORMATION… and not a clue on how to connect all this super-valuable information given by all these super-successful people…!

Then, all of a sudden, I felt like an electric shock inside my head…!!! (oh no!!! a short circuit caused by over-work – I thought- !!)…. But to my surprise, I was fine, better than ever before… and with all the information making sense for the first time in months!!!

“I got it… I got it …!!!” And I started writing for hours & hours without even stopping for a second. I was able that night to arrange my valuable information…!!!

I came up with a “7 Step Plan” to obtain my financial freedom. It became my every day companion, my “insurance” for a better future. I kept it in an easy place to reach, and read it every day… many, many times…

After a few weeks of doing the same thing with consistency I started noticing a change in me …. and in the people around me (my change made them change toward me!).

Not long after that, I found my vehicle to obtain my “Financial Wealth”. In my first year after having started my “7 Steps Plan” I had an income of over $100,000, and I was on my way to my first million dollars…!!!

My life has changed like I never thought possible. I have been able to give my family everything I always wanted … and what’s more important… I believe in myself again & I’m not afraid of the future anymore…!!!

Friends who knew me before and witnessed my “economical change”, approached me with questions on how I did it. I told them how, and shared my “7 Steps Plan”. They were able to achieve economic security after a few months.

I had found a proven system to obtain FINANCIAL WEALTH…!!!

… And this same “7 Steps Plan” my new friend, is what I will like to share with you today…


Since early times it has been a human desire to obtain FINANICAL WEALTH although not too many people have been able to achieve it.

But before we get into the “7 Steps” let’s define what FINANCIAL WEALTH is:

Certain economists say that FINANCIAL WEALTH is to have more money than needed to cover our prime necessities. Enough to plan our financial future with peace of mind.

For some others to feel they have FINANCIAL WEALTH, means to have huge quantities of money. For others it’s just having enough for certain things. Either way, to have money, is the main goal.

THE SEVEN STEPS that I will share with you now, will help you draw a plan to reach that dream objective … and more…!
Let’s start …

First step: YOU MUST DEFINE CLEARLY AND PRECISELY WHAT YOU REALLY WANT.
Many people fail in life because they don’t really know where they want to go or what they want out of life. You can hear them saying: “I want to make a lot of money … I would love to travel the world … I would love to have a beautiful house… I want this or that…etc, etc, etc.” But the truth is that they don’t really know what they want …!

So our first step now will be to take pencil & paper and write about what you really desire out of life in a clear and precise way.
I can hear you asking….

Is that really needed . . .? Why . . . ?

It’s very simple…

If you don’t know where you are going, how do you know when you have arrived…? How to strive for something if you don’t if you don’t know for what…?

That’s why you’ll take a 3x5 card and put it in your pocket or purse or any other place that will be easy to reach. For a whole week, every time you think of something that you would like to have or have to do, write it down on the card.

Let me give you some ideas of things you might want: a new home… a second home… a new and better car … amount of money you want to earn monthly or yearly … where to go for your dream vacation … how much you want to save … etc, etc.

Once you do this, you will have taken a big step toward your FINANCIAL WEALTH.

Next you will:

1- Write everything in the order you feel is most important for you.
2- Write the date when you would like to reach the goal.
3- Figure out the amount your goal will cost or the amount you want to earn each month or each year.

Let me give you an example to make it easier: Let’s say you have decided to earn $10,000 a month starting six months from now. (This might sound impossible to you, but the amount you can earn is unlimited, (you can do it … if only you can believe it). Write this amount and date clearly … and keep it in a place where you can see it every day as a reminder of your goal or goals.


With this you have finished STEP ONE toward your FINANCIAL WEALTH. It wasn’t so difficult, was it…?

Second Step: FIND A FINANCIAL VEHICLE (WAY) THAT WILL HELP YOU SECURE YOUR GOAL.

There are proven ways that will help you get your FINANCIAL GOAL. The first one everybody thinks of is a JOB: but the word JOB means Just Off Bound …!!

The reality is that just a handful of individuals may claim that they got their FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE through a job. It really does not have to make sense to repeat the same mistakes other people have already encountered:
FACING RETIREMENT DEPENDING ON THEIR INCOME FROM THE SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM ONLY.

Definitely this is not a way that I will suggest you follow.

GETTING A COLLEGE DEGREE for many people is the way to go, although any one can tell you that having a college degree will not give you the financial security you are seeking.

More and more graduates everyday find out that they must really be lucky to get a job where they can apply and get paid for all the knowledge they got in college.

AND MY OPINION IS, that going to college is a necessity, but will not secure your financial future at all. You must find a vehicle that will lead you to obtain your financial goals. I will mention three “ways or vehicles” that you can look at … and I will point out the I have chosen.


VEHICLE NUMBER ONE: Start Your Own Business.
Having our own business is one of the dreams many people would like to achieve in life.

Having a business will give you a lot of positive things, like: freedom to act …, being able to apply your creativity…, face daily challenges that will help us become a better person, etc. Also having a business will give us a lot of headaches, with things like employees, big investments, inventory, etc.

Statistics show that 95% of all business will fail within the first 3 years.

To start your own business you will need experience and knowledge of what you will be doing. If you have the energy and don’t mind the challenges this will be a great option … Instead of going for a job where you take most of the blame and maybe a little recognition, you’ll be doing it for yourself.

VEHICLE NUMBER TWO: Franchises.
This can give you all the advantages of your own business and will also eliminate the risks that a traditional business offers.

Out there you can find a lot of successful franchises, but they all require a HUGE amount of money to start up. If you don’t have that kind of money to start, chances are you will not be able to take that path.

On the other hand, if you have the money this could be a fantastic vehicle to achieve your financial freedom.


VEHICLE NUMBER THREE: Direct Selling.
Dr. Charles King from the University of Illinois in Chicago called network marketing “the last bastion of our capitalist world to achieve financial independence with little investment …” Direct selling is also known as “multilevel” or network marketing.

You can find a great number of companies developing direct marketing approaches and, in a constant way, they have helped a lot of people to be financially free.

These companies will supply all their members the necessary information and guidance to help them achieve their success.

They give all this help – and much more- merely because the only way for these companies to be successful is by helping their members to become successful first …!!!

Which is a very interesting point ….. Because it’s not always that we find- when starting a new business- experienced people willing to share their knowledge and experience with us, so we can obtain success…!!!

This is the vehicle I chose, and these are the four main reasons for my decision:

1- Little start up money.
2- Tremendous opportunity to have passive income.
3- An incredible change to expand internationally.

Third Step: STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLE.

Find new friends if you must … Life is too short to let it be jeopardized by negative influences.

Fourth Step: DON’T BE A HUMAN LOBSTER.
I will include a poem by Dr. Orrision Swett Marden that explains every clearly what I mean by being a lobster:


THE HUMAN LOBSTER

A lobster,
When left high and dry among the rocks
has no instinct and energy enough
to work his way back to the sea,
but waits for the sea
to come to him.
If it does not come,
he remains where he is and dies…,
ALTHOUGH the slightest effort
would enable him to reach the waves,
which are perhaps within a yard of him.

THE WORLD IS FULL OF HUMAN LOBSTERS:
PEOPLE STRANDED ON THE ROCKS
OF INDECISION AND PROCRASTINATION,
WHO,
INSTEAD OF PUTTING FORTH
THEIR OWN ENERGIES,
ARE WAITING FOR SOME
GRAND BILLOW OF GOOD FORTUNE
TO SET THEM AFLOAT…!!


(This step does not need further explanation). JUST … DON’T BE A HUMAN LOBSTER !!!!!!!!!

Fifth Step: TAKE ACTION !!!
If you decide to do something …, you know you want it with all your heart … but don’t take action, nothing will happen …!!! You MUST research, you MUST think, but by all means you MUST take action …!!

Not making a decision is a decision itself. You have to ask yourself … how can you get where you want to be if you don’t start any movement…? If you don’t take the first step…?

Act today. DO NOT leave for tomorrow what you can do today !!!!!

Sixth Step: ALL EXCUSES ARE EQUAL.
No matter which excuse you can give …, or which excuse you choose to give … there is NOT a good reason to be a failure …!!

Look back five years, can you see yourself at that time..? What happened during those five years…? Did you get what you wanted…? If not …, WHAT IS YOUR EXCUSE…?

It’s hard to face reality … It can HURT to face reality … I can understand that …I’ve been there many times … But I can also tell you … “Don’t look back to recriminate yourself … Now is the time to move forward …, now is the time to make the decision …, Now is the time to make the necessary changes to have a fantastic future!!!”

Seventh Step: START SAVING …!!! SAVE …. SAVE … AS MUCH AS YOU CAN …!!!
You can make all the money you want, but if you don’t have a plan to save it, you will never get to your golden mountain!!!

Start with a little … Then increase that amount step by step… You MUST save …, save…, save … and remember … all excuses are equal!!!

These are the seven steps I have promised you, but I must add two more that I learned after I finished with my original plan:

Number Eight: SURROUND YOURESELF WITH PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING, LEARN FROM THEM. APPLY WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, TO GET WHERE THEY ARE NOW.

Number Nine: (This is the most amazing step of all, that’s why I saved it for last):

HAVE TOTAL FAITH IN THE UNIVERSE/GOD/A HIGHER POWER …!!! THANK GOD FOR EVERY THING YOU HAVE …!!! NO MATTER WHAT…!!! AND DON’T FORGET TO THANK HIM FOR THE WEATLH AND ABUNDANCE THAT IS COMING YOUR WAY!!!

Following these seven steps … plus two, you may achieve what you really want out of lie … I can’t promise for sure you will be successful, but .. These STEPS worked for me … they worked for others who, like me, were willing to pay the price … why not for you?
