Shocking Statistics

Today I read some shocking statistics.

Each day in the US, 2861 high school students will drop out… 17,297 public school students will be suspended … 1000 children will smoke their first cigarette… 2739 children will have parents who are divorcing… 4248 children will be arrested… 1329 infants will be birthed by a teenage mother … 8219 children will contract a sexually transmitted disease!

Frankly, this frightens me. As a coach who cares deeply about human beings, I wonder why we raise so many children who never reach their full potential. I think about the parents of these children and I wonder if they had coaching tools, if they’d be able to raise better children.

My experience as a coach, and a trainer of well over 2,000 coaches, is that when we learn coaching tools, we learn what we need to make incredible transformations in the lives of others. This goes for children, too. I believe if we start coaching our children early, we can help them prepare for what life puts in front of them. Our children will be better family members, friends, and workers and be able to meet goals and keep themselves on track.

The reason many adults and their children have so much chaos in their lives, is that we aren’t taught the skills we need to live highly productive lives in our schools. We don’t understand coaching tools because no one ever educated us about them.

When parents learn coaching skills they can help their children make better decisions, solve their own problems better and become better able to adapt to change. When they encounter obstacles they have strategies to deal with them, don’t get frustrated and make good life choices.

Coaching teaches us about the world, about ourselves and about being a human being on this planet. Education teaches lessons in math, English, history, etc, but missed the most important life lessons.

If you want your children to make good choices, be responsible for their futures, and to have the tools to see the consequences for their actions, you must learn coaching skills. Parents who learned coaching skills report their children are more connected to the family, are more positive, more loving and forgiving, make good choices and understand how their choices impact their future.
