A great way to generate new subscribers is to offer a brief trial for a reduced fee.
Example: The cost of membership may be $29 a month. But you give new customers 14 days of access for $1.
Of course, if you use this strategy, all new trial members must automatically renew at $29 a month, starting on Day 15. As a result, many of your trial members will become long-term paying members.
